Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in August 2021, Afghanistan has been plunged into the worst humanitarian crisis it has ever suffered in the 21st century. According to a recent statement by Dr. Ramiz Alakbarov, UN Deputy Special Representative for the Secretary-General and Resident Coordinator, the number of people suffering from acute hunger rose from 14 million in July 2021 to 23 million in March 2022, making Afghanistan the country with the highest number of people in emergency food in-security in the world.
PDFKanat Makhanov is a research fellow at the Eurasian Institute of the International H.A Yassawi Kazakh-Turkish University. He holds a BA in Business Economics from the KIMEP University from 2012. In 2014 he earned his Masters degree in Economics from the University of Vigo (Spain), completing his thesis on “Industrial Specialization in autonomous regions of Spain and Kazakhstan”.
