Position: Researcher (Specialist in Chagatai Language)
Employment Type: Full-time
Contract: 2-year fixed-term contract within the framework of the project (renewable depending on project needs and performance)
Position Overview
The Eurasian Research Institute (ERI) invites applications for the position of Researcher specializing in the Chagatai language. The selected candidate will participate in a scientific research project focused on the study of historical and archival materials written in Chagatai.
Within the scope of the project, the researcher will provide support to the research team in reading, interpreting, and conducting scholarly analysis of historical documents and manuscripts. The primary responsibility of this position is participation in the aforementioned research project.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, describe, and conduct scholarly analysis of texts written in Chagatai within the framework of the project
- Participate in the transcription, translation, and interpretation of historical manuscripts
- Contribute to the preparation of academic articles, analytical reports, and other scholarly publications
- Provide assistance with administrative and research-related tasks within the scope of the project
Minimum Academic Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD degree in History, Philology, Turkology, Linguistics, Oriental Studies, or related fields
- Advanced proficiency in the Chagatai language, including the ability to read, understand, and write texts
- Strong knowledge of Chagatai grammar and its historical linguistic characteristics
- Experience working with historical manuscripts and archival materials
- Experience participating in scientific research projects
- Academic publications related to Chagatai language, Old Turkic written heritage, or historical manuscripts will be considered an advantage
- Ability to work effectively within a team as well as conduct independent research
- Strong sense of responsibility, discipline, and commitment to the principles of academic integrity
Language Requirements
- Advanced knowledge of the Chagatai language (required)
- Knowledge of Ottoman Turkish (additional research language)
- Fluency in Kazakh (required)
- Knowledge of English and/or Turkish will be considered an advantage
